24.Patrick J.Buchanan:
I first
met Pat Buchanan in June, 1966. The occasion was that I had a meeting at
the New York downtown offices of Richard Nixon who, at that time, was a
lawyer at "Nixon, Mudge, Rose & Guthrie".The meeting was with
Richard Nixon and Arthur Burns at which meeting Burns told Nixon that he
did not have available time to help him but when Nixon got the nomination
Burns found the time!
Pat Buchanan and Rose Mary Woods (marvelous secretary of Richard Nixon) shared a cubby hole together outside the offices of Richard Nixon. Pat Buchanan worked off the top of a small filing cabinet on which there was a typewriter. He was the speech writer for Nixon on a full time basis before the Presidency and during the Presidency. He has, as you must know, run for the Presidency two times and failed twice.
In all the years that I knew Richard Nixon he never once referred to anything that Buchanan had done although he did refer to Ray Price frequently and to Bill Safire occasionally.
Today Pat Buchanan is a yelling, screaming anchor on the CNN show called "Crossfire" which is nothing but people yelling at each other most frequently to no avail!
Buchanan was a conservative of the first order way back then in 1966 and it was always emotional and subjective. I never heard him scientifically or statistically justify any position but he always had an opinion on everything. He was one of those who "believe" but never give a reason or justification for their "beliefs"
I will sum him up simply: all raw emotion and little knowledge. A word bender and little else!

I am working from memory and the backgrounds I give you are from my personal (not book) knowledge. This is their backgrounds as I knew them. I have not checked out the details and the backgrounds are incomplete but they do jell with my knowledge of them and my experiences with them.
