Dr.
Martin Anderson. Martin Anderson is a rarity in the political world and
an almost extinct breed!
He is a decent, kind, thoughtful, unselfish, magnanimous human being and smart as all get out!
He came to the attention of Richard Nixon because he had written a book about the disastrous destructive construction of the Bronx (NY) Thruway. The book was entitled accurately enough "The Federal Bulldozer". As a result of that book Martin Anderson became the Domestic Policy Head of the Nixon White House for about two years in the first Nixon Administration. He left the White House and joined up with the "Hoover Institution" located at Stanford University.
He was then involved in the Reagan Presidential campaign where he was also Domestic Policy Head. After Reagan was elected he joined the President as Domestic Policy Head once again. As best I remember he stayed on the job for about two years. He then went back to the Hoover Institution where he is now a resident scholar.
He has to be one of the most self-effacing people I have known in politics. He does not have an evil bone in his body. I never knew him to be derogatory of anyone, never have I heard him denigrate anyone and, in fact, I have never heard him say anything nasty or negative about anyone or anybody. If he thinks it he keeps it to himself!
And on top of all that he is brilliant and has written several superb and fascinating books about the Reagan years, which book are most revealing and a major contribution to history. The only problem with those books is that he respected and admired Reagan and the left wing has to dislike that!
I have read all his books and they are well worth the time and effort if the history of politicians interests you at all. And, the most important thing of all, they are accurate and you can depend on them for that. No baloney or hyperbole here!
The average American has not heard much about Martin Anderson because he is self-effacing but they should since he is a man of intelligence who has truly been on the inside.
Do I respect him? Do I like him? A resounding YES to both!
These are the backgrounds of
prominent people I have known. The backgrounds may be incomplete or they
may be wrong. I am working from memory and the backgrounds I give you are
from my personal (not book) knowledge. This is their backgrounds as I knew
them. I have not checked out the details and the backgrounds are incomplete
but they do jell with my knowledge of them and my experiences with them.
