The clashes erupted at about 5 p.m. local time Saturday in the historic Place Bellecour square, where a large number of riot police had been deployed to head off possible disturbances.
Shoppers raced to leave the area and store owners quickly locked their doors as about 50 teenagers and young men began damaging cars and stalls, and hurling stones at police.
Police said two people were arrested in the violence, which occurred hours before a curfew came into force that banned minors from being outside with adult supervision between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Until the battles in Lyon, France's third-largest city, the nighttime riots that have stricken various parts of the country since Oct. 27 had largely been confined to poor suburbs.
Paris steps up security after internet threats
In Paris, authorities were braced for more unrest after messages calling for violent action in the French capital were posted on the internet and distributed by text messaging. "
Human beings get sick; some of them are sick more frequently than they are well. You have to be sick to be a politician; mentally, physically or both.
If there is something strange in the history books that makes no sense of any kind I suggest to you that it is the result of sickness of one kind or another.
Major decisions made by people in power are frequently wrong becuase the politician was sick; very sick, too frequently. The so-called attending Doctors that are supposed to take care of the political leaders mostly lie through their teeth about the health of their patient.
The commanding general of the French armed forces in 1914 was a very sick general. He had syphilis. It was concealed. The medication for syphilis at that time destroyed all judgment.
Woodrow Wilson was incapacitated by a stroke; his doctor lied about it. His wife pretended he was well and hid the fact that he had a stroke.
Franklin
Delano Roosevelt was incapacitated; his doctor lied about it.
Jack Kennedy was on many daily drugs and had numerous daily injections to relieve his pain; the doctors lied about it.
Lyndon Baines Johnson was an alcoholic. It was never revealed.
Pierre Chirac is sick and most probably had another stroke. It is the only explanation for the total indecision of the French government in coping with the developing riots in France.
I have not seen or heard about ANYTHING regarding Chirac since the riots began:
- No press conferences.
- No press statements.
- No personal appearances.

Gregory:"Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?" Holmes: "To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time." "The dog did nothing in the night-time." "That was the curious incident," remarked Sherlock Holmes. From "The Adventure of Silver Blaze" by Arthur Conan Doyle |
I live in the United States. I do not have ready access to the French media of any kind. I do have access to the French media on the Internet. I have not been able to find a single statement, interview or announcement by the President of France regarding these riots.
|
"The President has done nothing during the French riots." "That is the curious incident." remarks Pierre Rinfret. |
In the following observations I assume that the President of France is sick and therefore incapacitated:
-
The curfew will fail.
-
The riots will both increase and spread geographically in France.
-
Ultimately this government will fall.
-
There will be a constitutional crisis.
- The euro currency will come under material attack.
- The riots will spread throughout Europe.
- Germany is next.
- The German coalition government is as weak as they come.
- The entire continent is ready for major upheavals and that includes Russia and all the little ones.
